Gold Expressions was launched for the first time ever in Russia this year in partnership with leading Russian jewellery trader Choron. The entire 300 piece collection, from the 60 participating Italian manufacturers, was exhibited at the New Russian Style Fair in Gostiny Dvor, Moscow, from the 22-25 May, with a dedicated launch event on 23 May, followed by a temporary exhibition in St. Petersburg.
Russia has become one of the world’s best performing jewellery markets this decade. Statistics, supplied independently for the WGC by GFMS Ltd, show that annual jewellery consumption growth averaged 17 per cent between 2000 and 2005, taking demand from a cyclical low point of 24.2 tonnes in 1999 to some 62.5 tonnes last year.
Russia is the 7th largest gold jewellery consuming market, and its rate of consumption is increasing. Research shows that for imported jewellery, Italian designs are number one for Russian consumers, thus making Russia a key market for Gold Expressions. Choron cooperates with 200 jewellery dealers in Russia and holds a strong position in the Russian jewellery market.
